This should help people who want to get to know their character better. As far as my research has brought me, it is by far the most comprehensive character dossier out there, and it will only continue to grow from now on.

Some people will probably have difficulties getting through the entire thing for one of the original character, so I recommend filling this out for yourself before you do it for any of your characters, but you're definitely gonna wanna not post that online. That's how identity thefts steal you.

At some point, I'll be uploading more versions of this. There will be an image version for you visual types and an html/CSS version for you internet types.

There is a yet-unfinished character sheet for my pony OC, found here, that can be used as a reference if you need one.

When you post your character sheet filled out, please include a link to this blank form in the artist's comments and acknowledge that I was the original creator. Also, it would be cool if you could link me to yours. Other people's characters are always interesting to read about.

Now featured on klokwerkskogwerks! klokwerkskogwerks.squarespace.…

EDIT: This sheet will be going through a major overhaul sometime soon. It will be more organized and the examples and description will actually make sense. With any luck, you'll get the html/css version and the image version at the same time.

This is freaking ridiculous! Who in their entire life has ever needed to go into this much absurd detail to create a character?! I mean, congrats on your dedication, but LITERALLY no one needs this much.
dehydromon Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
The idea isn't to force anyone to complete every single question in this thing (although I would strongly disagree on your notion that "no one needs this much"). The idea of the sheet is to ensure as much ground is covered as possible so that you can fill in what needs to be filled in. Frankly, you're probably spending way too much time on a character's insignificant attributes and not enough time on the actual story if you're taking the time to answer every single question.
odon3626 Featured By Owner Mar 29, 2015
I would never in a million years answer every question on this list, but that does not invalidate the list at all.  I love it.  No one needs to answer them all, but the list forces you to at least think about them.  Without this list, how many questions would you have never thought of that might lend important relevence to your characters and story.  I use it more as a resource to open my mind to possibilities.  The series I'm writing is deeply interwoven from book to book and this list helps to maintain consistency and force me to consider character elements and how they might affect or be affected by events across the entire series.
Kagamine-Rin-Len-V3 Featured By Owner Feb 23, 2015
Well what if people WANT to? It's nice to get a lot of detail, and if you're looking into publishing a book, detail is VERY important. The name age gender bio extra thing just won't cut it for anything except ro,ep,ay
Kaos-chosen Featured By Owner Mar 3, 2015  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
As an amateur writer on 30,000 words, you really do not need to fill out pointless details like these. These are things you might come across as you write a book, but its not something that interests readers at all. A basic profile is all thats needed (and not even that) and you can develop and change your character as you write them. I feel like filling in all of this is just going to make you write about pointless things just to include details that won't add to the story. It'll make the story drone on and bore whom ever is reading it.

For instance, you really don't want your "first impressions" written down, because every time your character makes a first impression, he will either have the same dull impression you've written here every time, or an interesting new one, to a different indivudal. Because people are more fluid and don't make the same first impression every time. If you feel like your character should have more impressions after writing this, then why did you bother filling it out?

If you want to write, and write well, ignore this and dont pigeon hole yoir character.

Fair enough, but since when has any character ever needed to have their nose shape, specific laugh, and their debt specified?

This sheet is a bit overkill, I'll admit, but it's nice to have a lot of detail about your characters. ;) Honestly, nose shape and a specific laugh are nice to include, and in many good books that kind of thing is pointed out. (For example, in Harry Potter, they mentioned that Ron had a long nose, and also that Voldemort's laugh was very high.)
Really, there's no way I'd be able to answer every single one of these questions, but it is kind of nice to have in case you REALLY want to be specific. :) It's all optional!

I prefer to use this one as it's detailed, but not overly long like this version. :)

Well, I ASSUME you don't have to answer every question. I'm gonna have to fill in this thing multiple times for my story and I'm skipping some things as well.
